Conclusion: Humic and fulvic acids can help reduce the therapeutic dosage of the anticonvulsant drug carbamazepine, and thus reduce its side effects.

Title: Comparative evaluation of humic substances in oral drug delivery

Type of Document: Peer-reviewed journal article

Takeaway: The present study demonstrates that both humic acid (HA) and fulvic acid (FA) have sufficient potentials to be explored as pharmaceutical excipients for bioavailability enhancement. Complexation of carbamazepine (CBZ) with FA and HA indicates its beneficial effect on enhancing brain permeability, which is presumed to decrease the amount of CBZ taken per se, and hence reduction of side effects encountered. CBZ–HA(1:2) complex appeared as the best performing complex indifferentin vitroandin vivostudies. Further, since FA and HA have demonstrated good antioxidant activity, they will take care of oxidative stress produced in seizures. However, further studies involving different experimental animals are also needed to make more conclusive statement on these complexing agents.

Iron Deficiency

Conclusion:  Shilajit can help manage iron deficiency anemia.

Title: SHILAJIT IN MANAGEMENT OF IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA

Type of Document: Peer-reviewed journal article

Takeaway: This study has shown that Shilajit has significant anti-anaemic activity in both models. Our data obtained from the present study suggest that the Shilajit can be taken as a dietary supplement in the management of iron deficiency anemia.
